My girls each took a turn being sick last week. Haley missed several days of school because of her fever. I kept telling them that they need to "fight the fever!" Well, they all did! We are now fever free!
I was reading a past newsletter from my Midwife, Nancy Spencer, and found the following tips for Beating Cold and Flu Season:
5 Simple At-Home Steps for Beating Cold and Flu Season
1. Sleep: Most of us do not get enough sleep. Sleep is when our bodies repair and recover. The benefit of 8 hours per night can not be overlooked.
2. Water: Our bodies need clean water everyday to work properly, from maintaining alertness and energy to diluting toxins in our diet and environment.
3. Cut out Sugar: This can not be emphasized enough. Sugar puts our immune system on “sleep mode” for up to 6 hours, leaving us vulnerable to attack.
4. Vitamin C: More than just a treatment for scurvy, this vitamin promotes tissue healing, reduces inflammation, fights viruses and bacteria, and is an antioxidant.
5. Play: With your family, your pets, or your friends, “Play-time” is not just for kids. It’s one of the best ways to combat stress and keep your immune system at its healthiest.
