Reward Charts!

I read somewhere that it is best to give your children an allowance instead of have them earn money for chores. The money jar didn't work out to be the best idea for my children after all.

When I was visiting teaching last Sunday, my little friend was so excited to tell me about his reward chart. He is rewarded with stickers when he does good things. She had made a chart for both of her children. When they earn a number of stickers, they received a reward. This works quite well for young children! I thought this was adorable.

I decided to search online for reward charts. There are several you can find for free. I found one on Super Nanny and tried that one for Amber. There are 10 steps the little girl climbs to the "castle" at the top. When she reaches the "castle" as we call it, then she earns a reward. It worked really well. Tonight we had our small party with chocolate homemade ice cream (choc pudding, half & half, and ice in the Vita Mix). We also had Dave's parents over for dinner.

The other chart I am doing for Haley and Allison is little flower pots. When they do something with out whining or when asked the first time, they receive a sticker on their flower pot. When they have filled 6 pots they get a coupon. The coupons are for things like pizza for dinner, out for ice cream, movie night, 15 mins of computer time, etc. Haley earned her coupon pretty quick and we went to McTeacher's night at McDonald's (we went through the drive thru). They each got a chocolate sundae.

I am impressed with their cooperation. Amber was looking for ways to earn stickers. She put my shoes away with out being asked.

Here is a link to the flower pot chart: (we don't fill in the task part, just the reward)
